Thanh Tung Consulting — our team and mission

OUR STORY

Built on steady ground,
not bold claims.

Thanh Tung was founded on a simple observation: most Vietnamese businesses do not need more ambition — they need better structure, clearer thinking, and someone willing to look honestly at what is actually happening inside their organization.

A consulting practice rooted in Ho Chi Minh City

Thanh Tung was established in 2009 in District 1, at a time when Vietnam's business environment was expanding quickly and many companies were struggling to build the internal capability to manage that growth responsibly.

Our founders — a group of practitioners with backgrounds in organizational behavior, corporate finance, and governance — saw that smaller advisory firms could serve local companies far more attentively than large international consultancies typically did. The work began with a single client in the textile sector and grew steadily through referral.

Today, our practice covers three defined areas: team effectiveness, capital readiness, and enterprise risk management. We keep our scope deliberate because depth matters more than breadth. Every engagement delivers a written, actionable deliverable — not a slide deck full of suggestions.

We are proud to work in both Vietnamese and English, and we take the time to understand the specific dynamics of each client's industry, ownership structure, and leadership culture before offering any recommendation.

Mission and values

Our Mission

To support Vietnamese business leaders in building organizations that are more coherent, more capable of raising capital, and better equipped to face the risks that growth inevitably brings — without making things more complicated than they need to be.

Candor Over Comfort

We tell clients what we actually find. If a team's problems run deeper than communication style, we say so. If a company is not ready to raise capital, we explain why and outline what readiness would require. Our value is in honest assessment, not pleasant reports.

Respect for the Client

We recognize that business leaders carry real responsibility. Our job is not to judge decisions but to improve the quality of information and thinking that goes into future ones. We show up prepared, we listen before we speak, and we deliver what we promise within the time agreed.

Our consulting team

A small team with complementary backgrounds — close enough to work as a unit, diverse enough to cover the range of issues our clients face.

Standards we hold ourselves to

These are not marketing statements. They are working principles that shape how every engagement is designed and delivered.

Written Deliverables Only

Every engagement closes with a written document — not slides, not verbal summaries. Our clients need something they can act from and share internally.

Fixed Timelines Honored

We scope each engagement to a defined number of weeks and we hold to that. If scope changes, we renegotiate openly rather than quietly extend the billing period.

Client Confidentiality

We do not discuss client work with anyone outside the engagement team. Every new engagement begins with a signed confidentiality agreement before any diagnostic conversation takes place.

Evidence-Based Assessment

Recommendations are grounded in what we observe — survey data, interview findings, financial figures, documented process flows. We do not recommend based on intuition alone.

Senior Consultant Involvement

The consultants named in our proposals are the ones who do the work. We do not staff engagements with junior associates without the client's knowledge and agreement.

Bilingual Communication

All work is conducted in Vietnamese or English — or both — according to the client's preference. Documentation, interviews, training sessions, and deliverables adapt to what the client's team actually needs.

Business consulting in Vietnam: what we have learned

Vietnamese businesses operate in a business environment that has evolved quickly since the late 2000s. Ownership structures are often concentrated in founder-led families. Capital markets remain less accessible than in more developed economies. Regulatory frameworks for enterprise risk and governance are becoming more formalized, particularly for companies engaging with international partners or regulated industries.

In this context, consulting work requires fluency in local norms as much as it requires technical expertise. A team assessment approach designed for a European technology company will not translate directly to a Vietnamese manufacturing firm with a long-serving workforce and strong hierarchy expectations. A capital readiness framework drawn from Silicon Valley assumptions about investor culture will not serve a company trying to engage Vietnam's bank lending system or a regional private equity firm.

Thanh Tung was built around this reality. Our frameworks and tools are designed for the conditions that Vietnamese businesses actually face — including the management styles, ownership priorities, and capital access dynamics that shape what is realistic and what is not.

Our three service areas — team effectiveness, capital advisory, and risk management — were chosen because they represent the most common structural challenges that prevent otherwise capable Vietnamese companies from growing steadily and sustainably. We believe good consulting in this market should make organizations more resilient without making them more bureaucratic.
